Selena Album Cover

Como La Flor is a 10×10 vinyl album inspired by Selena Quintanilla-Perez, the Queen of Tejano music. The concepts for this design were inspired by Mexican graphic design, Mexican mural art, and Selena’s personal style. This album acts as a tribute to the iconic singer, who passed away on March 31, 1995. I was inspired to choose this artist upon looking back to my personal experiences and childhood memories being a Mexican American woman.

Selena was an icon of Mexican American culture and defied the expectations of women during the 1990s. She changed the music industry with her unique blend of Tejano and American Pop music, with themes of love, passion, and heartbreak heard in her albums. A big part of her image also included her clothing style that worked in similar ways as her music, combining Traditional Spanish and Modern American trends. She challenged the boundaries of gender with her stunning, bedazzled outfits that existed in the contradictory space of provocative and respectable. This album acts as a tribute to this iconic singer, dancer, and fashionista.

This album cover was completely hand-crafted and all the illustrations were hand-drawn.
